Toki

Toki or whao were originally a practical tool employed in axes, chisels and weaponry. They were made of pounamu and lashed to wood as there was no steel at that time the design represents strength and leadership. This is because it had to be strong so as not to break when being used as a tool to carve and leadership as Pounamu is so Highly prized by Maori only leaders could obtain it.
